    Squealing monitor!

My monitor has started making a high pitched whining noise within the last few days and it's really starting to bother me! I bought it direct from Amazon and have owned it for less than 3 months, but Amazon won't take it back as they only accept returns within 30 days! All i want is a replacement. Does the 'Sales of Goods Act' apply here? Should Amazon accept the return as the monitor is only 2 1/2 months old?

It's an LG W2442PE-BF and it's been absolutely brilliant apart from the high pitched noise (it's like getting tinnitus).

    Any help/advice is greatly appreciated

SOGA does apply, they are just another retailer.

Have you actually explained to Amazon that it's faulty?

Yes and they are trying to tell me it's upto the manufacturer to sort it out as Amazon don't accept returns after 30 days!

That just isn't true. I've returned items to them long after 30 days for a replacement. Why they're being so fussy with you I don't know, normally they're excellent.

As for what happens with the item, under the SOGA, you're protected to a point against items that are faulty. The short of it is that under 6 months since purchase, the onus is on the retailer to prove that it's wasn't inherently faulty, and over 6 months since purchase, the onus is on the buyer to prove that it was inherently faulty. Saracen has explained this far more thoroughly and far more accurately on several occasions, do a quick search of his posts if you like.

Clearly Amazon want you to use the item warranty to get it sorted, and if you want to you can do that and go to the manufacturer. You don't have to though, the SOGA should be sufficient on this occasion IMO (I make no guarantees that I'm right!). Your call in that regard.

Looks like the pinch is even hitting Amazon then. This is the first time I have heard of them getting difficult over a return.
    Society's to blame,

    Re: Squealing monitor!

i come across this a lot as epson are a client of ours, the warranty's are all on-site and it amazes me how people seem to think its the retailers problem when an on-site warranty makes it a lot easier.

i often go to a retailer who has accepted back a faulty product, i refuse to replace it as the cusomers removed the inks so i cant test it.

egg on there face and a waste of fuel making 2 trips to the shop for me to show up at there house the next week.

    Re: Squealing monitor!

I finally managed to get a result from Amazon after i was advised to send a SOGA letter... It seems there was some kind of misunderstanding at their end (blamed new staff). Anyway, they've agreed to send Yodel to collect the faulty screen and issue me a full refund... I would have preferred a replacement but they no longer have that model in stock.

I should probably think about getting a different model now... It was a brilliant screen but it's also the second one i've had to return (the first one started to buzz when bright images were displayed). I'm now thinking about getting an IPS monitor that can also cope ok with games (i know the response time will not be as good as a TN panel, but the image quality, colour reproduction and viewing angles should be far better).

Glad you got it sorted. Certainly in my experience Amazon have one of the slickest, hassle-free returns process of any on-line retailer
