No idea how I find these problems :(

So, I've found another Windows problem but it's at least reproducible this time.

If I use Windows search to search the whole C drive (not just indexed locations), I get this:

Followed by 'Explorer has stopped responding...' then Explorer restarts. Quite annoying as I use the search function quite a lot.

I tried re-installing the C++ redistributables to no avail, and couldn't find much info about the problem on the Internet so I'm thinking it's been caused by an update. I reformatted this morning which turned out to be a waste of time; with a fresh install it was fine, even with AMD CCC installing the x64 C++ package it was fine, but after I completed installing software, it started again, but the x86 package has ended up installed too.

Considering this is a pretty clean system with just some software installed, it should be common, can anyone else reproduce it?

    Many thanks, as always.

That could be it, IIRC at least one of them was installed with Abiword, not sure about the other one, but I'll try replacing them with the latest version.

Nope, just removed them and installed latest versions, still happening. Wish I'd checked properly while reinstalling what's causing it.

OK, so I tried searching one bit at a time to narrow down to what folder is causing the problem, at it turns out it's C:\Program Files\MozyHome so it looks like I'll have to get in touch with their support team and let them know.

Edit: Even navigating to C:\Program Files\MozyHome\Data instantly crashes explorer. :O

Uninstall > Reinstall Mozyhome ? If you need files off any sub-folder, use cmd.

Re: No idea how I find these problems :(

It was happening even after I reinstalled Windows, so I've dumped Mozy for now. And TBH I'm now not so confident in a company which doesn't spot such a obvious and destructive error in testing. They could have redeemed themselves by getting back to me about it and/or patching it but instead they just ignore it/me. It's not like it's hard to recreate; it still happens on a fresh install and on other systems. And surely other people must search their entire C: drive occasionally?
