Hi all,
I've got loads of old DOS based games I want to play but obviously can't as I'm running XP. Is there a way round this as I'd love to be able to play syndicate wars etc again.

I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...
syndicate wars cannot & will not play under xp natively, nor with the aid of vdmsound (which can usually help with some old dos games).
dosbox will run a FEW games, usually antique ones (i.e. nothing with dos4/gw, and not most others).
the best solution is virtualpc or vmware, stick a dos 6.22 install on it, and play on that.
or get an old p1 machine & install dos on it for real.
Virtual PC? Sorry, what's that?

yeah it supports a lot more than when I last checked as well, but their advice is correct - current high end machines emulate like low end 486s with it at the moment - it can handle transport tycoon now though, which is all I care about![]()
ok, cheers, I'll give it a go

just get a 486 =) will cost u afiver off ebay
or £20 for a 486 laptop
I play my dos games on my p233 IBM thinkpad tho
erm directhex sir... I thought dosbox was infeasibly slow. But try pressing ctrl + f12.. or f11 I can't remember. the cpu is automatically limited by dosbox, so u just increase/decrease the cpu cycles using ctrl + f11/f12. one is up. the other is down.
I just happen to have found this and was playing syndicate <- sadly without sound and One Must Fall. the best game ever <- WITH sound ! YAY.
cheers
