    RAM problems?

    Hey.
I need someone to give me a detailed guide on how to run memtest. I know where the file is, i know loads of people who have it, but i urgently need too use it and afaik theres no tech-noob friendly guide.

I got another one of those BSODs like my old thread. http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...t=weird+reboot
I thought that reformatting might get rid of them but i got one just now so i'm guessing it's defective RAM. Also, when i booted up from it all, i found that all my bookmarks in FireFox had been wiped, and whenever i try to scroll up and down in a window, my pc goes down to about 2 frames a second.

Can anyone either explain memtest or confirm what my problem is?

NB. in the last 24 hours the only things i have installed are omega drivers and a java plugin for some chatrooms

Memtest is easy, it should come downloaded as an img or iso file.
Justburn it to CD, plonk it in the drive and restart the computer. It'll start running straight away(you may have to set first boot device to CDROM in the BIOS but I don't think it matters)

My problem is exactly the same as this guy's. Makes me think that it was the display utility that came with the omegas thats causing the weird scroll, but i wanna check my ram anyway

Really dumb question now but are you absolutely the video card drivers are setup properly. Whenever i've had problems scrolling the mouse that is always my prime suspect.

ok i understand now. i'm pretty sure they're the main culprit as this is my first reboot since installing the drivers, but i still wanna get my ramtest done to stop the reboots. this was kind of a double question thread.

    Reinstall your graphics card.
Or were you talking about the memtest thing?
Any questions about memtest or is it pretty much covered?

Thanks Greenpiggy the drivers thing worked. i've found a version of memtest that tests your mem while in windows, and its running in the background now.

Aries appear to be the most popular RAM providers on the site as far as 512 is concerned: they always have more Aries than any other make in stock and the stick i have has a load only received 5star reviews. also, Memtest has found 0 errors after 180 cycles (375% coverage) but is still running.

This annoys me because it means that i'm going to have alot more trouble trying to detirmine the cause of these reboots that i can't seem to shake off...

After Memtest and reinstalling graphics card drivers to ones you used before and didn't cause reboots, try Prime95. This should pretty much eliminate your CPU as the problem. What sort of temps are you getting?

    Update:
Performed the test and it comes up with this:
This will take about an hour.
    Test 1, 3100 lucas-lehmer iterations of M24903681 using 1280k FFT length.
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4998779297, expected less that 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
    Execution halted.
:S doesnt llo to good to me.. any advice? i'm guessing its heating problems as speedfan show my cpu temp rising by about 2C a min under the stress test, and on checking my heatsink last night i found it to be ever so slightly wobbly (ie i ould budge it about 1/2 a cm in either direction)

EDIT: torture test comes up with-
FATAL ERROR: rounding was 0.5, expected o.4
