New SSD build having strange problem with internal HHD's

Well my 5 year old pc decided to die just before the weekend, and in good old fashion style I groveled to the wifey for a new 1...wohoo she agreed.
Traveled the 140 mile round trip to Scan at the weekend and bought the following.
    16gb ram
    120gb ssd
    3tb hd
    gigabyte Z77x-D3H mobo
    GTX570
    and i7 cpu.
Oh and a new case, using psu from old system, 850w thermaltake.
No probs building system up, installed win 7 on SSD, put 3TB and 500GB HDD's in.
Strange thing keeps happening whereby I will leave pc to download some of my games etc, as my net is only 5mb speed so leaving it overnight, or for a few hours while popping out. But when I return I find the programes have stopped downloading and both internal mechanical HDD display autoplay play feature, its as though to pc has lost and rediscovered the HDD's. I have set power options to never put the pc to sleep, only the monitor to sleep, but this did not solve the problem.
I have gone into the advance power options now and set a time for HDD, will see later if that worked, but in the meantime any other ideas what might be causing this.

When you say you've set power options, do you mean in Windows or in BIOS? There may be some in BIOS that might be relevant.

Windows power options only at this stage...will check bios manual. didn't think of that tbh, but I would have though windows could potentially overwrite any power options made in bios?

    Possibly.

Also, are you sure the system isn't restarting while you're AFK? Open a notepad window and leave it on the desktop and see if it's still there when you return.

The manual give some power options, but nothing relating to HDD, more on power on by keyboard, resume by alarm, Erp and graphic standby modes.
So still open to more suggestions.

re: New SSD build having strange problem with internal HHD's

Well you have done all the power options that was my first thought.

    next up :

Are you running the two mech drives on a different sata power lead than the SSD? ie is the power lead faulty.

Retry all the connections in the HDD sequence, SATA data both ends and SATA power both ends.

Try the mech drives on a different board header if available, maybe the controller is having issues.

Just a dumb question but in control panel / devices can you see any question marks, have you got all the board drivers installed ok ? Gone to the manufacturer and downloaded the latest ?

You can always check eventvwr to see what your system has been up to after one of these downloading issues.

Let us know how you get on.

I am using the leads supplied with mobo, I do have spares to try.

There are 4 header, 1 for sataIII and remainder sataII, the 3TB drive is sataIII, and the 500GB is sataII, so they are in different headers, but will try to swap around.

Everything is sweet in there, no hiccups at all. I have all the lastest drivers provided my Gigabyte.

Thanks for the input, there are a few more things to try

    Sata power like this :

Are you running all the drives from the same daisy chain ?

Your board spec says you have a few more headers than that, from the intel chipset : 2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3 0/SATA3 1). Put the SSD on one of those headers then put the other drive into the remaining clear header and the third drive in one of the two marvell chipset sata3 headers : (GSATA3 6/GSATA3 7)

Let us know how you get one

    Update.
I have two separate looms for sata power cables, so did as suggested, not had a problem yet, been leaving pc while at work and overnight, no hiccups yet.
