    Question motherboad upgrade help please.

    ive just ordered a new motherboard and cpu im upgrading from an xp 2400 to an a64 3200 ive read that i will need to re install windows on my hd when i do this..my question is can i use the recovery cd that came with the computer to do this or am i going to have to buy a copy of win xp any advice would be welcome thanks..

    recovery cd will prolly only work for the old system as that will be what it was imaged for (drivers ect) besides the copy of XP you have will be OEM and only for use with that system so yes you will need to purchase a copy of windows XP retail.

    did you say "athlon 64" ? You lucky bugger. Get a 64 bit OS on there just for sh**s and giggles. There are various Linux distributions out there...

    Just a thought. Since it is free and uses your CPU better... The xp 64 it hack is shoddy.

    I use 64bit XP as an everyday OS now. Stable & quick. No discernable differendce & it's free for 1 or 2 years iirc.

    Well shut my mouth.. I just assumed that u paid for that. Then again you are testing for microsoft for free, and i am sure they jiggered this out to try and get a share of the 64 bit action and it HAS to have errors. Look at how long xp was in development and how long this 64 was in development.

    I don't know the development times so I am talking out of my ass using pure guess reasoning. I love fuzzy logic

    free 64 bit xp...doh!! ive just ordered a oem copy of xp and a new hard drive..i might try that 64 bit one

    oh well thats the 64 bit xp one ordered ill give it a try once again thanks for the help.
