    Installing a SATA drive

    Help required

I’m replacing my main IDE drive in my P4C800Deluxe mobo and switching over to a single SATA Raptor, a couple of questions:-

    1) As this is a single drives setup up should I plug this into the 1st non raid SATA port on the mobo
    2) Once connected will I need any additional drivers to install to detect the drive. If so which one as the Asus site lists a few
    3) Are their any performance benefits between connecting to the the mainboard connectors or the the Promise Raid ones? (if so can you run a single drive on the raid connectors
    4) Once connected will the drive appear in the bios as a boot option?

Many thanks for any assistance provided

Stick it on the intels sata port! Not the promis! You also need to instal the drivers for it! Its the intel ones.. the mobo should have come with a flopy that contains it.. Also you will need to enable the on chip sata controler in the bios! then you need to select it as the boot devise...

Also something to note, make sure if required you have the SATA power connectors either on your PSU or added to a molex connector.

The biggest mistake of SATA users is to buy this drive then forget some have the new power connectors.

Yep! The ports can be used in either config.. You should use the intel ones because they arnt routed threw the PCI buss and there for arnt limited to 133 mb's! Plus I disslike Promise! Bios can be tricky though.... It took me awile to set mine up!
