Re: BSOD - Machine Check Exception
<><><> Update <><><>
Well we're another week on and Scan are still testing my OC Bundle to see if they can identify the problem and get it fixed or replaced. I guess I should give them a break since we just had a 4 day weekend but it's now been weeks since I first placed my order from them (Order date was May 1st).

Call them up, I doubt the online returns website tracker will do you any good as I am also awaiting news of my RMAed MB. Sometimes they may not be good updating you but have actually sorted some stuff.

I think this is going to be my task in the morning, the initial £2k has been out of my bank account for over a month now and still no result as to where I'm going next..... I hope Scan offer a reasonable compensation package because most people would have started the process for a full refund by now.

How much does small claims court cost?? I could do with a second 7970 but it can wait if I need to stump up the cash for this :)

<><><> Update <><><>
Well my stuff came back from Scan today, the receipt says that nothing was faulty.... So does this mean they haven't done anything with it???
Also I've now hooked everything back up and it won't even power on, I've tried using both different sets of cables for my AX850 and also tried using a different kettle cable but still nothing...... I'm not sure what the problem is, if I've over looked something maybe but it's getting late and I'm starting to get frustrated with it all..... This is my first and last ever home build, I should have just lined Alienwares pockets and been gaming since May 1st, instead I'm having issue after issue after issue and then getting a constant kick in the face as the components that I can't even use drop in price or get replaced by better alternatives.
If I can't get this working tomorrow I'm just going to bin it and write off the money I've spent as a bad job.

Here's a video on testing your PSU to make sure it is working. I know the AX 850 doesn't have colour coding as I have one myself.

Don't worry it wont damage your system, corsair are the ones that recommend doing this
You want to short the 3rd pin and 4pin using a paper clip on the right hand side, then Connect a fan to the PSU and switch on. If the fan switches on, your PSU is fine and the problem is elsewhere.
Once you have tested the PSU and it work, it's time to connect to the motherboard. Before you switch off, CLEAR CMOS, usually a button on the back you hold for 5 seconds on power off or it should be in your Motherboard manual. Turn on your PSU and system, if it doesn't power up, gradually remove components, start with ram hard drives, then DVD drives, GPU one at a time untill your system boots if at all. Lastly test with Ram and remove 1 stick at a time untill eventually you remove the CPU. If you no power up then it's likely your Motherboard.
Also see if you can connect your speaker to the motherboard and take note of the beeps each time you power up on each component removal.

Things have been stable since last week once it got up and working. I guess I will just have to write this off as a bad job and when it comes to build # 2 in the future I will shop with eBuyer or one of the other online retailers.

Yeah I've used Amazon in the past for odds and ends and I have to say I can't knock their customer service (I had a headset problem and they replaced it twice and were fast and helpful!). Shame Amazons website layout is just plain horrid to navigate and find things unless you know the actual component name..... I have to give Scan credit for that, their website is very user friendly to shop on.
I'm helping my brother put together a build at the end of the month and will be making sure he gives both eBuyer and Amazon a look before ordering his components.
