    SSD and Games?

So I have my new SSD installed with a fresh installation of Windows 7.

I want to put a few games on the SSD, but I don't really understand Sean's from Windows 7 forums or Steam's explanation on how you go about it.

Is it possible to have two Steam clients installed? One with a few games installed and the other with everything installed?

Just install steam and then use links to move the locations of games to another drive. Use this program and have a read - it will explain everything you need: http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinks...kshellext.html

I use steamtool. It's incredibly easy to use.

    Re: SSD and Games?

What a pain in the arse this is.

I tried to use Steammover but that didn't seem to work, Steam couldn't detect any of the games installed and kept asking to download them again, while L4D2 did start but crashed and told me it has corrupt files that needs rechecking. BFBC2 needed to be downloaded again. About 80% of my games needed to be re-downloaded again, worst thing is that they all have "auto-update" clicked off for some reason...

    I will try Steamtool.

BF3 is installed on it, just played Going Hunting mission and that loaded so fast, less then 10 seconds, used to take a minute and more on my Samsung F3.

Agent, I seen that as well, seems pretty complex, but I have got it downloaded. :s

    Re: SSD and Games?

I would imagine SteamTool should work fine, as it looks like it just uses NTFS junctions, but if you do have any problems with it I have good experience with Steam Mover. One thing to note is that neither will work with Windows XP, as NTFS junctions were only introduced with Vista

(Sorry there's no link - I'm not enabled for posting URL's yet. Just Google Steam Mover)

    Re: SSD and Games?

I just installed Steam twice, one on my SDD and the old one.

    Downloaded the games I wanted.

If it works, then perfect. Sorry about mentioning Steam Mover when you said you had trouble with it - somehow I had completely missed that yesterday!
