Hi, I just installed a new heatsink/fan (a Zalman flower thing) and swapped a couple case fans. when i finished i plugged the power and monitor cables in and tried to boot it up but it turns on, makes noises for about 10 seconds and then switches off. nothing comes up on the monitor in this period. any idea what is going on?
Sounds like the CPU overtemp is kicking in. Can you check to see if the heatsink is properly screwed down & touching the CPU die?
yeah.... check and reseat the processor as that thar GreenPiggy stated.
Then there is more things to check after that... for the graphics not coming on when u boot up. I think if the motherboard "OMG it is hawt" protection wouldn't stop the screen from displaying ?? I might be wrong. But I booted up with the fan being constricted by a molex cable once, and the screen displayed right until I got.. "beep.. beep.... booooom" and shutdown.
That screen prob is a sign that something is loose i.e. the Ram and/or Graphics card.

to me it sounds like either the cpu isnt inserted properly, or something is eartherd or you havnt connected one of the power things properly.
happened to my mate who didnt connect the little square power connecter - just the main mobo one.
nothing on screen suggests its not a temp issue but rather a connection issue - if it was temp - would most likely work and show something for a few secs
Wheres your CPU fan plugged in?
Maybe its not plugged into the same place as it was and now it thinks you ahvent got a fan and is shutting down before any damage is done, quite a few BIOS's now have an option to shut the PC down if the CPU fan fails...
