OMG!!! I just got my new Antec 480w psu for $90+ and I put it in my computer and turned it on... Well it was running pretty nice and I was reformatting then all the sudden like the old psu, it shut off for no reason! What is this problem?? Please help anyone...

Have you tried putting it together outside of the case to eliminate the motherboard shorting out somewhere?
right reset cmos ,remove everything but memory cpu and video and a floppy drive set it up outside of the case on a piece of cardboard or something (disconnect everything else including ide cables!) set it running memtest then report back on what happens
(have to say may well be a dodgy mboard, but we will see)
I assume that you have ruled out a heat problem?
I'm pretty sure its not a heat problem, I also have NO floppy (i have no idea why lol). I think it could be the memory cuz before it used to do it to and it only did this right when I got the memory, but the memory is Corsair 2x256mb 3200 and a NF7-S so I dunno???
tried running memtest? would help alot to diagnose if it was your ram or not?
it sounds as if u wasted $90 anyway since the prob was not the old psu..
might sound over simplistic but have u tried changing the black power cord going from the wall to the psu ?
I had a cable that somehow got busted, and the computer ran fine 90% of the time. Then the tiniest vibration would cause a power down or reset :( took AGES to figure that one out, since its uncommon
also what are your PC specs, you sure thats enough juice for it? [should be but if you have like 6hd in raid, watercooling , monitor powered by pc, lights, lots of fans, an overclocked P4 etc etc it might not be enough]
Well the computer works now for some reason, but when i'm in games and what not, after awhile it will just boom.... shuts right off. Then I have to flick the power switch in the back off then back on and sometimes wait a little while first. The error report said this "A hardware failure reported by your Central Processing Unit (CPU)". System Specs below.

You having to switch off your psu and then switch it back on sounds like your psu's short circuit protection. Take everything out of the case and run it like that. This should cut out most chances for it to short.
sooo what are you trying to say?... It's shorting out when it heats up or something? Cuz it's turning off when I play games or something. Maybe I should get a new case? I dunno lol
Actually, when it does shut off, it looks EXACTLY like a shortage in the curcuits. Soo concluding that, maybe it is a shortage? What do we do to fix this?

Well first take everything out of the case, i mean ABSOLUTELY everything. Make sure there arent any loose screws anywhere. At this point you can also clean out all the dust :P. Then check the motherboard standoffs. Make sure they match up exactly to the holes in your mobo. Put only the essential stuff back in the case (mobo,psu,ram,gfx,hdd) and report back what happens :)
Check the event viewr to see if naything has been logged prior to the shut off
Event Viewer? How do I check that? lol I bet i've been in it before but i'm super tired to remember.
Shogun - how many times do you need to say "take everything out of the case" :D
BTW - be thankfull for the short protection - nearly fried many PSUs with hot plugging :eek:

why would it be shorting only in games/intense load situations?
