    Link between Google account and targeted advertising

    Hey
    Let me start by saying I have no problem with targeted advertising and its worked out quite well for me up to now. Saved a few £ on adverts coming up for deals on products I've been looking at.

    However recently it seems to of become targeted in completely the wrong way.

    I use my Google account for nothing more then Emails from online gaming sites, tech sites, sport sites, news sites and online clan mates. Up until now thats meant I typically get adverts on tech, gaming and sport related products. No issues with that at all.

    For whatever reason when I sign into my Google Account now I get adverts from;
    Mature womens dating sites - they are like twice my age!?
    Holidays - I've not had a holiday in 6 years?!
    Cosmetic surgery - As someone who has had way more then their fair share of operations and hospital visits I would no way ever consider unnecessary surgery.

    As you can imagine this is leading to some really weird looks in the office or at home with old women in suggestive poses, girls in bikini's and adverts for Lip botox treatment

    The ads in questions are served up by AdChoices and Doubleclick. Both seem to be owned by Google. I've tried using the Google Ads Preference Manager - http://www.google.co.uk/ads/preferences/?hl=en-GB to set categories but I'm still getting the crazy ads.

    I'm 100% sure its my Google account thats doing this. If I sign out, wipe all cookies in Firefox and go to the same site I get these ads, I get relevant ads for that site. As soon as I sign into to my Google Account and revisit that site again the dodgy ads come up.

    I'm clueless what to do now beyond installing an ad blocker for Firefox.

    Anyone ever had anything like this?

    Re: Link between Google account and targeted advertising

    I shall give that a try. Thanks.

    EDIT: Still had the same issue after using that plugin. After trawling around the internet I finally found the cause of plague of inappropriate adverts... my emails. Seems Google scans yours Gmail Emails and displays targeted advertising. I followed the advice of checking through all my Emails for keywords that maybe causing the issue and removing them.
    There were several reference in Emails about games I'm currently beta testing that were obvious causes. Planetside had many reference to implants, not the cosmetic type, the sci-fi super solider type, but it seems Googles ads didn't realise. Some Firefall Emails had reference to cosmetics changes too as you were allowed to change your in game appearance.
    End result? Deleted Emails and adverts have been "normal" ever since.
