128mb sandisk usb key...

lo useful hexus peoples,

my gf got one of these doohickeys so she could transfer her stuff off the family computer (some old thing with windows98 (not se), to her new laptop w/ xp... however windows98 wont recognise it, and the driver she has is for 98se. anyhow will 98 support this thing, i havent yet had a go at fixing it (just left it for her dad who has a mild computer knowledge at best)...

alternatively i guess i could just give them a spare NIC and transfer the stuff off like that?

have you tried the 98se driver??
has the 98machine got the internet? if so connect to windows update and try that, theres probly a patch that will make it all work

As far as I know, Windows 98 was a dog for USB support hence they release windows 98SE with the usb support included into it as standard. If you really need to use this device I would look at upgrading to either windows 98SE or a later operating system.

yeh im thinking of borrowing 98se off a mate (cos he's now using 2000/xp or something) and upgrading it... but ive just found a 98 driver for my ibm usb key thingy so im gonna lend that to her and hope that works... why do people continue to use windows9x systems!arg! ty for your help tho

hup... the ibm usb key worked fine after i installed the driver, should i try the 98se driver or is there an actual 98 driver about - how come the ibm one would work but the sandisk one doesnt have a driver, the technology cant be that different!
