Graphics card crashes PC during bright flashes etc.

    Hello all -

as per my title, my PC crashes quite often during games, but pretty much exclusively at parts where there is lots of bright light/flashes on the screen.

For example, if someone attacks me with lightening in Skyrim it will crash, the sound will loop and repeat and the whole system will become completely unresponsive.

It has also been happening throughout 'Black Mesa' when the crocodile type creatures spit luminous green toxic gunk at me.

I'm running the latest drivers - can anyone suggest a fix?

    Cheers.

With graphics problems, it's worth disabling any "shaddow" effects. I've often found that these tax your computer harder.

Can you please say what graphics card you have, as well as your other system specifications. What "level" (poor/medium/good/extreme) of graphics do you play on? Do you have any overclocking?

Have you tried turning the settings down to see if it still happens?

Sorry, I should have said. I have a 260GTX Geforce card. The game runs pretty much perfectly with all settings up (apart from the crashing, obviously). I'll try disabling shadows.

Have to agree with ladcrooks. what size memory is on the card. Run msi afterburner with the monitoring set to on and see if it maxes out.
