Microsoft Exchange 2003

Hi (again!)
i feel like i should be writing to an agony aunt at this point. well the boss has spoken and he doesn't want to migrate stuff from win NT to win 2003 sbs (thank god!) but somehow i have to work out how to run exchange and set up new email accounts for everyone, any ideas?
this whole experience is making me wish i just stayed in my nice job at IKEA :|

use EXMERGE to extract the old mailboxes to a PST

set up the new accounts in active directory
then run exmerge again to import the pst files back into the SBS setup.

but thats a bit of a migration.....

creating mail accounts is pretty easy, just use active directory to create the account and mailbox at the same time.

Moby - I just manage an Exchange 2K setup - is he going to need to mess with the recipient policies to get the domain name sorted if SBS has installed itself w/ a .local domain name suffix?

when you configure internet ( another SBS wizard ) on sbs 2k3 , it asks for the mail domain name and sets the policy accordingly

dont worry about it - I remeber my first exchange install. I'd blagged my way into a job a couple of years ago , but you just have to think on your feet and never make any changes you can't back out !

there's blagging and then there's just outright lying.. guess which i'm doing, i'm finally getting around to printing the sbs document :| i'm sure this'd be easier if i knew anything about Exchange (other than how to spell it )

i'm still trying (in vain) to figure out how to start exchange server (or am i thinking it's more complicated than it is???

SBS2003 installs exchange as default.
Exchange starts as a service.
When you create a user, you can choose to create a mailbox.

Where's the problem?

erm the problem is really that i don't know what i'm doing..

the boss keeps asking me to start up exchange and then we can set up the email accounts (this is his thoughts not me) i thought i'd set up accounts for them but i'm not sure if i have to do any more to set up the email accounts, maybe i'm making this more complicated than it should be but i'm wondering how come i haven't put any details in about the email server.. but then again i wouldn't know what kind of thing it's looking for..

EDIT: i'm also sorry if i'm comin across as being really useless but i've tried to find this stuff out for myself but i'm just at a loss as to what i'm even trying to look for let alone finding it.. *sigh* only 5 more days to go.. :|

Create a test user account on the Domain controller using the add user wizard.
Join a spare machine to the domain using start run, http://<servername>/connectcomputer where servername is the name of the SBS 2003 domain controller.
This shoudl run through the wizard to joing the machine to the domain.
Once the machine is joined to the domain, log on as the test user.
Outlook 2003 should get installed, and my possibly want to reboot the machine, if so reboot and log in.
Once logged in, open outlook - and there you go, email working.

It'll not recieve external mail, as the MX records are probably pointing to the old infrastructure (the NT server) and you'll not be able to have mail delivered to both.
