Evening all,
Anyone got any ideas how to remove an Athlon 64 retail CPU backplate from motherboard?
I've got an MSI K8T-Neo FIS2R that's itching to hook up with a Coolermaster Hyper6 heatsink and that old backplate is pretty well grafted to the board to be honest!!
Normally held on by pushpins? Any pics of how its mounted?

Screws and old frame removed no problem. Backplate that's just about fused to the motherboard with adhesive is another matter though....
Don't think it's going to come off without a fight either.
Credit card and screwdrive jobbie maybe?
Already tried the credit card method. Don't even want to contemplate the screwdriver though, given that the plate's actually stuck to the back of the motherboard!!Quote:

If it's anything like the one on the K8N, I gave up and used mounted to that. I figure the design of it is actually slightly more robust than the CM plate.
Pretty much exactly the same.... only the CM screws have a finer thread and the heads on the AMD screws are too wide and stop the heatsink from even touching the CPU!!Quote:

Thanks to all who replied to me.
In the end I left the backplate in place after finding some screws of the same thread but with a smaller head size.
As a result, no need to butcher the motherboard to remove the old one, which also means I was able to fit the spanky new Coolermaster Hyper6 to the board without too much grief.
Were the screws in your bits pile? If so thats a good excuse to have one :)
