    Question PC randomly freezing

    Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire M3641 which is randomly freezing, either during boot up or at any time whilst in use.

I have not installed anything new recently.

It's running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit), has 3gb of RAM (2+1). The mobo has "N1996" printed in the largest font so I'm guessing that might be an identifier :-)

When the machine freezes though, part of the screen seems to go out of phase, I have a picture which better highlights the issue, but I am not sure how to upload it here.

Any suggestions? I have recently changed the Thermal paste on the CPU as my first thought was that it was overheating, but the error is still happening.

    Thanks, Alex

Display issues hint at a problem with the GPU. As this is built into your motherboard, it may not be good news. Have you backed up all your data ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

Everything that was important was kept on a separate hard drive. Only the OS and other software which I can install again remain on the "c" drive.

Should I scour eBay for a replacement board ?

    Re: PC randomly freezing

How old is it? Have you thought about the dust causing overheating. If you have access to various parts of the laptop they could be cleaned to remove clogs of dust.

You can get a temperature monitor here: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
