    Computer not displaying any screen.

A computer i'm working doesn't display any screen. All starts up normally with no beeps telling me anything wrong but i don't get a screen. The graphics card is new and i tried the hard drive in a different pc and it worked.

I had a bit of luck resetting the BIOS by taking the CMOS battery out. When i turned the pc on again i got screen and i got up to the XP loading screen it went back off. The monitor works fine because it is the one i am using not.

    Also RAM is brand new.

    Thanks.

Note: The BIOS is by Award and i get one beep

Re: Computer not displaying any screen.

has it ever booted properly with the new RAM and new graphics?

if yes, then yiou can ignore the rest of this post, in no, then read on...

either the power supply hasnt got enough power for the graphics card - what PSU and what graphics card do you have?

    or

as its rebooting when the xp screen comes on, you havent removed all the previous drivers from the old graphics card and its getting confused. - try booting into safe mode press F8 i think(?) then remove all traces of graphics drivers and related programs, like overclocking software, catalyst and similair

have you still got the old card to try?
put it back in and see if it boots up normally.

    or

youve dislodged something when installing new RAM or the new graphics card. unplug everything one piece at a time, and replug it

i'll try these steps i think might most likely be the power supply. I've made sure everything connected. I try the old graphics card see what that does.

And when it booted to the XP screen i don't think it restarted because it didn't beep again. just kept running. I'm going to have real look at it tomorrow and i'll post the result on here.

Also i'll edit the most tomorrow saying the parts if i don't get it working.

Given that you see the XP loading screen, and then it switches off...

Try swapping the monitor to the other port on the graphics card - GFX cards sometimes display on both/all ports when booting - they later switch over to the main adaptor/output when it gets into Windows.

And don't worry about the BIOS beep:

    From about.com

    1 Short Beep
A single, short beep from an Award based BIOS is actually an "all systems clear" notification. In other words, this is a beep code you want to hear and that you've probably been hearing each time your computer comes on since the day you purchased it. No troubleshooting necessary!

Re: Computer not displaying any screen.

Much of this has already been said; but your basic steps are (assuming it continues not to work):

    1. Check all the connections and make sure cards/RAM are firmly seated
    2. Reduce system to a minimum - in this case I'd disconnect DVDs; go down to 1 stick of RAM; GPU & HDD (as you already tested it externally)
    3. Try a different stick of RAM
    4. Try the HDD in a different SATA port
    5. Swap the GPU over with an old one known to work (if you can test the GPU in another computer too and both machines work you know that the PSU isn't up to the job)

At this point if it's still not working then you're down to PSU, CPU & Mobo, and the only way to test is to swap. If possible try a different PSU and if that doesn't work RMA the CPU/mobo assuming that they are new.
