    Hotmail delivery failure notification

    Just wanted to check something.....

My father tried to send an email to a patient, but had a delivery failure email back. When I looked at the message source i noticed that it said the reason, was 'relay access denied'. Now I'm assuming this is an issue with the recipients server? The email was going to a work address of the recipient.

I did email myself from his hotmail address and all was ok. Anyone know what 'relay access denied' means, as I can only see google results relating to people who have servers etc

The bounce back email can come from hotmail server or the recipient server, so check the email message to determine which server it is bouncing back from.

This means that the DNS record for email domain is incorrect so it can't deliver the email, hotmail is blocked from the company or there is policy/filter set on the recipients mailbox to allow specific emails through.
