    2. Asrok K8S8X ((cca 90 euro)
    ( Asrock K8 S964/S754, 2*DDR LAN sound 5,1ch, 6*USB2,0 SATA RAID )

    3. K7VT6
    (Asrock KT600 , XP&Sepro/fsb400 2*DDR
    LAN sound 6*USB SATA RAID...(cca 60 euro)

So you're just going to be recording video tapes onto PC?

Before you choose the motherboard, you need to choose what CPU you want. At the moment, there are a few choices (This isn't an exclusive list by the way):

    1. AMD Athlon XP
Pros: Fairly cheap, good overclockers, good performance
Cons: Not the best performers, can't upgrade CPU in the future without changing motherboard

    2. Intel Pentium 4
Pros: Fast for number crunching, among other things, alright pricing
Cons: Not always the fastest, can be expensive

    3. Athlon 64 Socket 754
Pros: Fast, the cheaper of the two main Athlon 64 sockets
Cons: Limited upgrades - in the future, will only be used for budget CPUs.

    4. Athlon 64 Socket 939
Pros: Very fast, especially in games, can upgrade in the future since Socket 939 should be the main AMD socket for quite a while
Cons: Very expensive, although prices should fall in the future.

Overall, I'd go for Althon 64 Socket 939 when prices fall. Unfortunately, I don't know of the decent motherboards!

If you already have that XP2600 processor then the Asrock K8S8X is out as it is the wrong socket for your CPU.

Of the boards that you have listed the ASUS A7N8X-E would be my choice.
You might also consider the ABIT NF7-S v2.0 or the ABIT AN7.

    Whoops, didn't see that part!

In which case I recommend the NF7-S - good onboard features such as Soundstorm and S-ATA, perfectly stable, and not too expensive.

thank you very much BUFF, for your advise and support.
It helps much when I am in dilemma and without technical knowledge.

On one Yu-forum(yugoslavia) they discussed which motherboard is the best for Athlon XP and everybody agreed that DFI Lanparty.(even Infinity)is the best.
on 2.place was the ABIT NF7-S v2.0 or the ABIT AN7, as you said.
but some don't trust Chineese and say it is better if Abit ..is made in Taiwan..

    thanks to all for response

The DFI's probably have the greatest potential for ultimate speed but I would not recommend them to a beginner - they can have issues that could be very frustrating to someone with little knowledge (I've got just enough to be dangerous ).
Imho (& as you can see I have both ABIT & DFI) - the NF7 series is an easier board to live with.
