    Re: Graphics drivers crashing homebuild

Ok then, I'll see you in a couple of days

For refference, the power supply is an XFX Pro 550W and the Hard drives are 3 Seagate 1TB (ST31000524AS) in RAID 5 using the raid controller on the motherboard.

Saying that to myself the raid might be an issue, looking up on of the error codes, I saw something about the Intel tool for managing the onboard raid, so next time i do a fresh install I'll skip that driver, or disable the raid.

Ram first thought, thank you all for all the help so far anyway.

    Success! Well, failure lol

    Error Confidence Value: 163
    Lowest Error Address: 000000242f0 - 0.1MB
    Highest Error Address: 000000242f8 - 0.1MB
    Bits in error mask: 4be000e3
    Bits in error - Total: 12 Min: 11 Max: 12 Avg: 11
    Max Contiguous errors: 1

This was at some point during the first 12 hours, I'll leave it running for the full 24, unless you think it's not worth it

Ok, looks like you've identified the faulty DIMM (might be worth testing in another slot just to be sure)

Back, and after 3 days of testing I can report no errors, apart from the initial one.

    Stick 1, Slot 1 - Failure
    Stick 1, Slot 3 - Pass
    Stick 2, Slot 1 - Pass
    Stick 2, Slot 3 - Pass

    I'll look into this tomorrow

Sorry, I completely missed your post. How would I go about testing the CPU or PCI-E? I'll try Linux tomorrow too.

You can't really, only by changing other things and seeing if the problem goes away. The linux suggestion was to try and remove software from the equation - if that still has stability issues then you know it's inherent to hardware or BIOS.

Did the vendor disk check, all fine

Linux starts up fine from a Live CD (Ubuntu 11.04 64 Bit), is there more I need to do with it?

Try and provoke it to crash Launch lots of browsers, go on you tube, play the inbuilt games etc.

    Re: Graphics drivers crashing homebuild

I managed to borrow a graphics card from a friend (GT 610), on a fresh install of windows the card works fine, drivers install and it's all go. However, when I install the 4000 drivers it wont start up. No bluescreen so I can't give you any error codes. He's had to take the card back now unfortunately so I wont be able to do anything else with it.

    Re: Graphics drivers crashing homebuild

I had this same issue on win 7 which made me pull my hair out!

You have to run windows update and make sure service pack 1 is installed. Go through the downloads in update as you will need to uncheck the graphics driver download.

Once service pack 1 is installed the graphics driver will install fine.
