Weird Corruption of Graphics in Various DirectX Games

Just recently I've found that various games I play have started to show some very strange corruption of the in-game graphics. I suspect the problem is something to do with my DirectX installation, as it seems that it's only DirectX games which are affected. So far it's occurred in Battlefield 3, Tomb Raider, and Bioshock Infinite (the games I'm mostly playing at the moment). I've uploaded a short in-game video to Youtube which show's the problem (it starts about 30 seconds in):

I've tried the obvious things like re-installing nVidia drivers, & using the Windows 7 System File Checker to scan for problems, but nothings has helped. I'm not overclocking my graphics card either (an Asus GTX 670) Can anyone suggest what might be going on?

Its the latest drivers (320.18) it's either the mem frequency or voltage that it screws up (there is a post on here somewhere)

Ah...so it's a driver problem? Or a hardware problem? Or both?

Re: Weird Corruption of Graphics in Various DirectX Games

As previously mentioned, there seem to be a lot of people having trouble with the latest 320.18 drivers. As I haven't made 5 posts yet, I can't give any links. However, a quick Google for "320.18 artifacts" should give you a bit more info.

Whether there's permanent damage, I hope not.
I'd personally uninstall current drivers and go back to an older version if possible.

Of course, if you're not on the latest drivers, could be a generic case of artifacting..

Which non DirectX games have you played that work without any apparent issues? Anything that's stressed the graphics card? I am on the 320.18 drivers with my 670 and have experienced no problems so far. Infact they seem to be the best drivers since 310.90 for me.

Could well be the GFX drivers, though I'm another 670 user on the same drivers with no issues also. If not your looking at a GPU problem.

If you've updated your drivers, roll them back.

If not, that's a classic symptom of GPU death, certainly if it's in more than one game.

Re: Weird Corruption of Graphics in Various DirectX Games

Thanks for all the replies & advice...I found an article Cat linked to in a previous post about the 320.18 drivers, which detailed how to clean the system & install previous drivers. I just hope it's not a sign that my GPU is dying I'm off to try a few games & see if it's any better...

    Update
    -------
I'm happy to report that installing the older drivers seems to have fixed the problem. In the article I read about this issue, it stated that some people were reporting damaged GPUs as a result of the 320.18 drivers...so much for being Windows certified! I'm relieved my system is okay now. Thanks for all the help, once again

That's good news. But don't assume it's ok yet. Sometimes a clean install of drivers/switching to different drivers can appear to fix a broken graphics card. Pay close attention to what's being displayed for the next couple weeks. If it makes it that far without issues, then I'd say it's probably ok I hope it was just the drivers though!

Re: Weird Corruption of Graphics in Various DirectX Games

Thanks for the heads-up. I followed the procedure recommended here for removing the nVidia drivers, & replacing with another (earlier) release:

    http://modcrash.com/nvidia-display-d.../#.UbxvH_nVDB_

So far I've not had any further problems though

Hmm. I am going to switch back to some older drivers now. Kinda worried!
