Issues with Wacom drivers on Windows 8

I have been having an issue with my Wacom drivers which hasn't been a big problem as I haven't been doing anything photographic, but I want to make a start on a project that I have been putting off and will need to use my Wacom tablet for this. The suggested solution from Wacom is to
Uninstall the driver, unplug the tablet and restart. Check: if some Wacom entries remain in device manager, remove them. Also remove the files wintab*.* and tablet*.* from SYSTEM32 and SYSWOW64, if some exist still. Then attach the tablet and install the driver.
The issue I have is that I can't remove the .cpl file that is left in my System32 folder, when I try and delete it I get an error to say that it can only be removed by the Installer for the application, I also couldn't remove it in Safe mode.

I was thinking about creating a Linux Boot drive on a USB key, booting into Linux and then deleting the file that way. I don't know if this works and I don't know how to do it, so I was hoping I might get some great suggestions on this from someone one here. Advice, tips and ideas would be most welcome.

Do it from the Windows recovery command line (boot off installation media)

    CD to the correct dir
    Then Del <filename>

edit - I'd actually suggest renaming the file / moving it, just in case.

It is NTFS permissions is preventing you from deleting the files. Make sure you are administrator and take ownership of the file. You will also need to grant yourself full access permissions. I would advise you to follow Agent suggestion as precaution if Windows depends on the file.

Edit: Right click on the files, select Properties and select the security tab. Take ownership first via the advance option before you grant full access permissions on the main security tab.

Re: Issues with Wacom drivers on Windows 8

I have just had a look, and it's not as simple as I thought it would be to take, I'm goig to work but will google this when I get home tonight, but at the moment I don't quite understand the dialog boxes that I'm presented with when I try to take ownership. But I think that the idea is sound and I should have no issue removing the file once I have worked out how to transfer ownership of it.

    Thanks.

Excellent, I managed to transfer ownership, modify permissions and then delete the offending file. Will try and re-install the tablet on Tuesday, I had to go out after deleting everything and I am busy after work tomorrow as well!
