    which virus do i have?

ok, the windows update thing doesnt seem to work on microsofts site and i have a tone of viruses,

isnt it the blaster worm virus that toys with the svchost thing? well thats telling me its 100%, but i thought it was the sasser worm that created a 100% cpu usage? ive ran a removal toom for the blaster worm, but it tells me i do not have it and i cant end the program (svchost.exe) in task manager, im using windows 2000pro btw.

    any ideas?

    thanks guys

svchost.exe is a basic windows host program - it HOSTs SerViCes.

and you could have a million different viruses. try housecall.trendmicro.com, folowed by www.freeav.com as a more permanent solution, followed by www.spreadfirefox.com for a more permanent avoidance.

and always install your latest service packs.

Best way to get rid of a them that I found is..

    Download Avast antivirus (free)
    Install it
    Update it
When it asks do you want to do a boot scan on next bott, hit yes.

This got rid off a laod of problems on the inlaws pc as it scanned windows files before they were used. Had to install it in safe mode once and downlaod the seperate update file, due to the PC kept turning itself off before I could even get in to the run prompt.

I also use Kerio firewall, it seems to keep all the probs away, even though I use IE.. I do have all my security set to auto update.

if you ever meet this problem again mate, when the pc tells you its going to turn off, get a command prompt window up, type 'shutdown -a' and it will stop the shutdown

are you sure this is a legal version anderson, as normally it wont let you into the site if you have a dodgy cd key(i think).

Scroll down near the bottom of this page to section titled... "If Your PC is Infested w/ Spyware" This page will also help you avoid the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites. Links to most online and free anti-virus software too.

    http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

This came out tops in a recent review... free 15 day trial just the ticket for a one off cleanup. A more user friendly and informative experiance than Ad-aware and spybot and picked up a couple of extra nasties.
