dvd drive problem

just tried installing a program on a pc but the DVD drive is not listed for me to select and run the installation. the drive is listed in the bios setup though. Using mycomputer, properties etc those not list the drive under hardware installed. what might the problem and how do I fix this. drive has been used before and all connection inside are okay

Check the BIOS and make sure DMA mode is set to Auto and PIO mode is set to Auto.
