    Exclamation Pc overheating!

HI, My new pc is running at about 55 degrees idle and after a quick game of far cry about 65 degrees. I'm just using the standard heatsink that came with my xp 2600 which said it had a thermal sticker on the bottom so i thought there wouldnt be any need for thermal paste, do i need some? Also i have an 80mm case fan next to the cpu. Should i have it blowing air into the case or taking air out of the case? Thanks,John.

For case fans, I personally believe you should have the fans at the front sucking air in, and the fans at the back blowing air out, so that you create a stream of air going through the case.

Those temperatures seem too high (assuming its at stock). Are you sure the heatsink is on properly? Might want to try reseating it, and sticking some thermal paste on it.

Yeah i havent even tried to overclock it yet. Easy tune 4 that came with my gigabyte mobo is reading even 67 degrees under load! I guess if reseating doesnt work i will have to put some thermal paste on it, but on the bottom of the heatsink it already has a thermal thingy so i thought that would eliminate the need for thermal paste. Would i still put the thermal paste on even with the pad on the heatsink?

You need to remove the thermal pad before you put thermal paste on.

Anything from the thermalright range slk900 etc, or this bad boy

Make sure the orientation is correct on the heatsink, ie the step should match the step on the socket.

I don't think that a new heatsink will particularly help - the standard heatsink should be fine for your PC without any overclocking, so there must be another cause other than the heatsink. Have you tried reseating it yet?

Just a thought, but some heatsinks have thermal compound on the bottom protected by a bit of tape. You are supposed to remove this tape to expose the compound before attaching the heatsink..

Looking at what e-buyer have got i'd say the AKASA Silver Mountain was the best of the bunch,
Personally, I'd go for one of these

No, I'm going to try and reseat it soon. Just a quick queary, my motherboard says my ANTEC true power 330w psu is only running it about 1600 rpm. This seems a bit low to me, is there any utility that i could use with it to increase the fan speed?

Ok so i reseated it and it's still coming up with the same high temps...The thermal interface stuff is on the processor part and its comeoff the heatsink so their can't be any problem there, i must just be unlucky?Anyways I've ordered a new heat sink and fan for the processor and this is it.http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=58513
I've not seen too many good reviews about it but i'll give it a go. Oh by the way, how do i get the stuff of the processor when i want to put the paste that comes with my new heaksink on? Thanks again,John
