Gigabyte GA-970 DS3 onboard sound (alc997 codec) no sound output.
Guys, I can't seem to get any sound at all from the onboard Azalia alc 887, I've re-installed the drivers etc. Windows says it's working but I have no sound!!
Any ideas?
Gigabyte GA-970 DS3 rev. 3.0
OS is XP Pro SP3.
It's ALc 887, not 997.
Encountered something similar years ago on an abit board, but can't remember how I fixed it.
Someone help.. please... Gigabyte site has nothing in it's help files.
Re: Gigabyte GA-970 DS3 onboard sound (alc997 codec) no sound output.
I lost sound due to it going down the HDMI. Not sure if thats a prob.
Linux OS on CD and see if it works?
Not much help here I'm afraid. I would make sure your speakers work; check the sound tab (right click volume control on taskbar and select playback devices.)to make sure its the right device. Use older drivers; use windows own set?
Re: Gigabyte GA-970 DS3 onboard sound (alc997 codec) no sound output.
Check the output isn't set to a digital one.
Control panel -> Playback tab -> check the default device. Make sure it's "speakers" and it matches the card.

Re_checked that it's not set to SPDIF output, checked speakers are set to Desktop Speakers. Still no sound!!! Maybe it's broken?

When I plug Jacks in they are not detected.

Oh theres's a thread about this on Tomshardware, many experiencing the same problems. Doesn't seem to be a clear fix, gonna try re-installing the drivers.

You could try confirming the hardware is okay by booting a Ubuntu disk or something? Almost any recent Linux distro will boot into the desktop and allow you to test sound right away.
Re: Gigabyte GA-970 DS3 onboard sound (alc997 codec) no sound output.
Addendum: Gave up and installed an ancient Soundblaster Card, Windows recognised it and auto installed it with no fuss, all working perfectly!
Now, why can't Realtek manage that?
