    Asus Motherboard CPU Led Red

When I push the on button on my case, CPU fan, graphics card, dvd drive etc all start working but there's a black screen on the TV, I can't get to the BIOS as the PC won't post. My keyboard connected to a USB port at back doesn't turn on either so I assume something's wrong with motherboard or CPU.

The CPU LED is red and the BIOS is the one that shipped with the motherboard so I know it isn't the one that supports the Ive Bridge E CPU's but I have a Ivy Bridge E CPU.

The CPU heatsink isn't getting warm either, its cold. I tried updating the BIOS using the Flashback method with a USB stick but that didn't work either, the button just stays a solid blue indicating a dodgy BIOS file or memory stick.

Would an old bios and new CPU really cause this problem? If not, what should I do?

Sabertooth X79, i7 4820K, MSI GTX 680 are the main components.

    Thanks

New build? From the site that board needs a BIOS update.

Know anyone with a Core i7-3820 processor? Your board doesn't understand that CPU, and unfortunately it's socket 2011 so CPUs are pricey.

Where did you buy it from? I know some places charge to update the BIOS to the latest for you; cheaper than buying a supported processor. Worth taking it back to ask them to flash BIOS for you.

Yeah it is a new build, I've had the motherboard for several months now but never even opened the box until a couple of days ago as I just waited for the 4820K to be released.

I got the motherboard from Amazon and no one I know has a i7 3820. I'm supposed to be able to update the BIOS using just a flash drive but the motherboard doesn't read from my usb drive. The led on the USB drive usually flashes when it's in use but the led on it goes off a couple of seconds after I push the Flashback button. The Flashback led goes solid instead of blinking.

My USB drive does have two root areas though, one for the U3 software and a normal root folder and both of these always open up when connecting to a PC. I'm not sure if the motherboard tries reading from the U3 root folder and I can't copy the BIOS to both root folders.

Go to asda, buy a £4 memory stick, and do it from that. I'd put money on the partitioning cocking it up.

Good idea, hopefully the BIOS is the issue as I can't see any other issue.

Ahhh right, your motherboard supports flashing without any CPU required. I didn't know that.

In that case yeah, try a different USB stick. Make sure it's in a native USB 2.0 port otherwise it might tell you off

Yeah I only need a power supply and a USB flash drive to flash a new BIOS, don't need anything else.

There's only one USB port that allows flashing, just need to get a flash drive with one root folder now.

    Hello,

I am having the same problem with a new build. Can you tell me which file I need to put on the USB drive, so I can try to update the bios as well.

    Thanks!

On my motherboard you need to put the .cap file you download from asus' website in the root folder of the memory stick (it downloads as a zip, so you need to extract it first).

Re: Asus Motherboard CPU Led Red

    Hi Guys!

I just got a new Sabertooth X79 with an i7-4820K. I am having exactly the same symptoms. I think I updated the bios, but maybe I did something wrong?
I went to asus's website / Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/#support and downloaded a the bios converter (SABERTOOTH-X79-CAP-Converter), put it on a FAT-32 empty usb, and named it 'SABERX79.ROM'. I pushed the button, it blinked once and then turned solid. I assumed that maybe it didn't need conversion, and went ahead with the bios update. I downloaded SABERTOOTH X79 BIOS 4608, put it on the same flashdrive, and named it 'SABERX79.CAP'..
The BIOS light blinked for maybe a minute and turned off. At this point, I turned the power on the machine back on, and the red cpu light went on with no post beep, same as before.

    Any help?
