I had something like this a few days ago, with a different file. Have you tried lowing it's prority (don't know if it's safe with this file). Do ctrl, alt and del and right click it to change it's priority.

Check AV signatures are up to date, do a virus scan

Visit Windows Update, download anything critical and outstanding

Download Spybot Search & Destroy, update it and run a complete scan

If you still have the problem after that, get HijackThis, run a scan and paste your log here

svchost is a windows program which hosts services - services are the windows version of daemons, they can handle things from providing sound, running the windows xp skin engine, controlling user logons, etc. you can't & don't want to eliminate svchost if you want a running pc. your path is to install some adequate antivirus (try www.freeav.com for a decent free app), a sensible firewall (smb.sygate.com for sygate personal, again free), and reduce your risk of infection by using safer, more secure applications (use mozilla firefox, free, instead of the dangerously insecure internet explorer, for example)
