cpu temps with MB5
Hi again, I'm looking to try and overclock my pc just a wee bit but im not sure about my cpu temps at the moment. I have a cheiftech matrix case with 2 intake fans and 2 exhaust fans and plenty of airflow and yet my cpu seems to be getting up to about 53-55 degrees C under load usaing motherboard monitor 5. I am only using the stock cooling on my xp2600 do you think this may be the problem because I would have expected my temperature to be under 50 at least with the airflow i have? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks again, John.

Generally the old stock AMD coolers arent particular good or quiet. A good aftermarket cooler will do the job a lot better - thermalright, zalman, alpha and some heatpipe coolers.
Depending on placement of your exhausts it may sometimes be better to have less eg if its below the heatsink in height it might be drawing away cooler air. An intake over a CPU is sure to lower temps.
For noise you should try to ensure you balance the amount of exhausts with intakes.

overclocking
Do you think with those temps i can get my xp 2600 @1919.31 upto at least 2.0ghz just by upping the fsb safely using easy tune 4?

Your temps arent too far off what id expect under load for that setup.
It is possible that the heatsink isnt seated quite right or that the case airflow is being impeded.
Also as pre said, the old stock AMD coolers wont cool that grea anyhow. Probably not being able to release the heat fast enough.
Wonder what your case temp is like.

What TIF (thermal interface material) did you use? Artic Silver? Or just the goop that came with the heatsink?
-
Crappy termal pad on the bottom of the heatsink

my case temps aree about 25-27 degrees so pretty cool

My temps are starting to get upto 59 degrees under load. I reckon it can only be the heatsink and fan.

yeah, get a nice lump of copper stuck on there with a nice blob of ASilver :p
