    It's nonsense having your AGP aperture set at twice your GPU's RAM. Set it at 128MB for all graphics cards of 32MB and above with more than 512Mb of main memory. You won't have to run your PC3200 RAM @ 2700 speeds as a matter of fact, your motherboard should be able to run your RAM at a percentage of your FSB, unless it expressly states this somewhere concerning your motherboard.

    How much cache does your HDD have?

    I really would recommend buying another 512 Mb of RAM however, XP can use a great deal of RAM if left for long enough just idleing.

    My hardrive is ata133 8mb cache 7200rpm so pretty fast i would have thought.
    Is what i have got here normalmemory wise, that does seem quite a lot being used up?
    total=523760
    available=284940

    the thing about the ram is that i have alredy bought a 512mb stick of 2700 for about £50 so its not really worth discarding it and spending £120 on 2x512 pc3200 sticks. Thanks,John.

    Why would you have to discard it? Just buy another 512 stick of PC2700 or PC3200, there is barely a performance difference in games between the two.

    What version of XP is it, Pro or Home? I am going to guess a Home version requiring WPA. This link will be of help to you:
    http://sniptools.com/vault/reinstall...activation.htm

    I have not done this before so I cannot guarantee it will work.

    This website might also be useful:

    Farcry definitely needs 1GB if you are playing with higher settings. You might also consider turning off Dolby/5.1 if you are using them since sounds have a large memory footprint as well. Might also consider turning down hardware acceleration for your sound card down 1 notch in control panel to see if its sound card hogging CPU time.

    out of interest try finding console commands for your games and set it to run no more than 60fps as the eye cant see anything above it, set it to 60fps and see if its a fetch problem from memory. If that doesnt work try the dxdiag tools in windows. DirectX sets everything up full blast at the start and the sound settings in dx can cause probs, try turning that down to normal acceleration instead of full and see what happens. This caused no end of probs in call of duty and quake 3 changed the dx settings and all is fine.
