Problems with Half Life 1 and Steam
I couldn't get my copy of the original Half Life to work with XP, so I used my CD key to ge the files off Steam. I've never had so many problems with a game. I frequently get stuck on lifts and am forced to continually reload saved games until I can progress.
The latest problem is a sound issue. The latest manifestation is on Surface Tension, at the section where you've passed through the inactive turbines, and find the dead marine surrounded by equipment. When I jump over to get the HEV power modules, I get the error "Sound: volume = 272" or something like that, when I try and pick one up.
Can anyone shed light on what is going on? I'm rapidly starting to regret ever touching Steam.
Problem (apparently) solved
I fiddled around with the audio options, testing it on an HEV power module. I found that if I maximised the "mp3" volume and reduced the HEV suit volume, I could pick up the power module without crashing, whereas it would always crash before. Seems it could be a Soundstorm specific bug.
