    Constant reboot after overclock...

Yes so i tried to overclock the crap out of my pc and er it failed epically today

All i seem to be able to get is a constant reboot, not screen no bio's loaded or anything...and this creates another issue. I have tried to reset the bio's but this isn't solving the issue, but from memory i had to flash the bio's to get it to work with my cpu, could this be causing my issues here?

To add if i remove all the memory i will get a set of 3-4 beeps from the pc, so im sure it is working i just cannot get a screen....

I am also able to occasionally get it to load but no screen and no beeps just "on"

I currently have the board out on my test bench with nothing plugged in and still cannot get it to work

    System specs as follows,

    Core i5 2500K
    MSI H77MA-g43

    Please help me

You wouldn't believe how stubborn some of the boards are to reset the BIOS are these days.

Before we go crazy with troubleshooting, take out the CMOS battery, unplug it from the wall and short the jumper for a bit. Leave it for a while, put in battery, power and then retry.

Otherwise, you'll need to start the usual part troubleshooting - swap things out until you find out the cause.

Did you go over the top with any voltages?

I'm not an expert with bios, but offer two possible solutions just to start the troubleshooting.
1.Try downloading the previous bios version and see if it will over write the new one.
2.As agent said removed the battery, but also check if your board has a bios reset jumper switch.

Right i have left the battery out for 5 hours, tried it and boom still wont work

Next up is trying the battery out with the cmos reset jumper in place....hopefully i will get something

And just so you know all i actually did was up the multiplier abit and i think it was the fsb i moved up to 155 which seems to have killed it....for now

    Re: Constant reboot after overclock...

Update! i got into the bios, none of the above worked....i just kept restarting the system with nothing attached and one stick of ram installed. Anyway once in i loaded defaults and restarted.

Now the problem has just started again....but this time it is not a constant reboot loop. Instead the pc is switching on and that is it nothing else is happening o.O suggestions?

Might try Pressing the power button and holding for 30 secs with the power cable out. It has been know that static build will make a mobo try and protect itself. Fans will go comp will boot but will not post. Holding it for 30 seconds discharges the static. Make sure it is unplugged tho.

Happened once to a friend of mine. So although it doesnt seem likely it is possible. Angering day that was. Haha. Good luck.

Could you have killed your RAM, do you have any known working sticks you could try?

    Re: Constant reboot after overclock...

Just to update, i managed to corrupt the bios, i have a replacement board already thanks to a good mate!

But if anyone else has this issue i should note how i got it to work again!

To start with i had to use a low powered pci-e GPU as for some reason i could only ever get a display on this, i also plugged in a usb pen which had a fresh copy of the bios on, i then for approx an hour was restarting the pc manually, The idea was that as soon as the little light on my pen drive blinked i knew i would get something

So after this finally happened i went straight into the bio's and re-flashed it. After doing so i ran some prime tests and gpu intense game benchmarks to make sure all was okay, i also ran memtest to make sure i hadn't damaged the memory.

So after a quick google it seems to be a common problem with newer bio's but if you can get a screen, which most of the time you can then flashing the bios is the first port of call as it solved all my issues

Cheers for the advice though chaps!

    Re: Constant reboot after overclock...

Almost all modern BIOS will have a recovery mode where you can put a pendrive in, hold certain keys and it'll force flash from the drive. Even if a visual output isn't present.

This is why I like Gigabyte boards so much - 2 BIOS. Just switch to the other one and flash the other back

I guess that's why he tried a crazy FSB You should be able to set all the cores to max turbo multiplier though.
