Unhappy Got a good one for you...

    Right so...

I am getting the not too unheard of error of "Your video card driver version 332.XX has stopped responding and has recovered". However, this will very occasionally happen when I am not even doing anything, such as when I have a page on Facebook open, or when I load up a video on YouTube, my screen will go black for a good five seconds, with the error message afterwards. (PC specs below in just a second). This is especially annoying when playing online games because of obvious reasons, and even more so because this only started happening about a month ago, my computer being about 5 months old now.

It runs all games at 100+FPS at all times. It will repeatedly happen roughly once per minute.

HOWEVER, it plays Battlefield 4 on the highest possible settings for hours at a time, no trouble at all. No crashing. No errors. (well as much as it can with BF4 in it's current state )
Things like Farcry 3, it will run at VERY stable FPS, but crash/hang every minute.
    What I have tried to fix this;

    Updating drivers.
Rolling back driver to older versions.
Doing a clean install of drivers.
Doing a format and reinstall of windows.
Used reg-edit to make it so that my screen cannot go black while this happens (basically now it will just freeze for 8 seconds while it recovers)
    Monitored temps, everything normal.
    Monitored power, everything normal.
    Purchased new power supply.
    Purchased liquid cooling.
    UNDERclocked my CPU.

    Still to no avail.

    Specs of current build:

CPU: Intel 4770k @ 3.5 GHz (did overclock to 4.3Ghz made no difference, also with 3.0Ghz)
    Motherboard: ASUS Z87 Deluxe
GPU: Nvidia/Asus GTX 780 OC U II (again overclocked or not)
    SSD: 256gb Samsung Evo
    RAM:16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
    Case: Corsair 900D
    Cooling: Corsair H110
    PSU: 1200W Thermaltake Toughpower

I don't know what else to do, and praying it's not a faulty video card.

    Cheers.

Tbh given that you have already tried everything else the only thing really left is the GPU, would of suggested a reinstall but you have already done that. Might be worth checking the CPU with intel burn test 2.0 and the memory with Memtest but i don't really think its going to make a difference tbh.

You could try taking out/disabling the GTX780 and just use the onboard - just to rule out the card being the culprit

I had this problem years ago with a 7600GT and it turned out to be a faulty card. Before returning the card I found that if I underclocked the card substantially it stopped doing it. Ok, that was years ago with Vista and early Vista drivers, but the symptoms sound identical. Perhaps try underclocking your GPU?

Turn off hardware acceleration of web pages, works a charm for curing stability problems.

(in firefox -> Options -> Advanced -> uncheck enable hardware acceleration for browsing)

Re: Got a good one for you...

Neither of those things should really be necessary, and it's also happening in games so something else is likely to blame.

A lot of the things I'd suspect are largely ruled out by a reformat not curing it. However was it a clean install when you tried it? I'm thinking it could be a driver conflict with something e.g. is there any extra hardware not listed?

Check BIOS is up to date, same goes for chipset (Intel INF) drivers. Also have a look through BIOS settings, see if there any unused controllers e.g. extra SATA ports, serial/parallel ports, etc which you could disable as I've found some controllers and/or their drivers can cause serious system issues.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to run memtest overnight to check for potential memory errors.

However, faulty video card is a possibility. I second Lil-Diabo's suggesting of trying the system with the card removed. If you have a way of testing the card in another system that would be worth doing IMO.

I'll read up on the error, see if I can find anything relevant.

Edit: OK there are a few people complaining of stability issues with the current drivers; I notice you've tried older drivers, and I understand there likely aren't many to choose from with it being a fairly new card, but perhaps try some from a bit further back if you haven't already?

Also, some people are claiming this was happening due to voltages being too low on the GPU. However rather than increasing the voltage I'd try just underclocking the GPU a bit to see if it resolves - it should have essentially the same effect for testing at least and should be somewhat 'safer'.

This! Fixed it in my case with my 7850. Very odd though.

It is, but as it's vendor independent (it cured a problem with a gtx 560 as well) I suspect the fault lies with either FF coding or some universal API bugginess that neither vendor has quite managed to work around.

Re: Got a good one for you...

This has happened to me a couple of times though not as severe as your case OP. I am going to try turning off the hardware acceleration and see if the error pops up again. It wasn't very persistent before, but it'd be nice for it not to happen again.
