[SOLVED] Halfway through building and confused with ATX/EPS - help please! :'(
Hey folks!
Needless to say very excited to be starting my first build, and with all my research and reading I thought I was well prepared, but now not so much. >.<
I was expecting one choice for power supply to the motherboard and it seems I have two...
- 8 pin EPS12V Power Connector
- 4/8 pin ATX12V/EPS12V Power Connector
I currently have the 8 pin EPS one plugged in and found the other tidying up spare cables (non-modular PSU) and it seems either would fit perfectly well... am I meant to swap them? Have I missed something? Why are there two?
WHAT'S GOING ON!?
Sorry about that... but yes - help me, please. xD
in case it's important:
MB: GA-Z87X-3DH
PSU: XFX 550W Pro Series Core Edition
edit: the 24pin is already in btw, that's not the one I'm confused about... thought I should clear that up.
edit2: fixed muddle-up
Re: Halfway through building and confused with ATX/EPS - help please! :'(
It's fine. Some motherboards have an extra 12V power connector to help boost CPU voltage/stability, and older ones just had a single 4-pin. If you've got one 8pin socket on the board then you can use either connector.

Ah! Cheers, kalniel! :D
I actually should've changed this thread (but I was too tired and/or excited) because I managed to figure it out anyway in the end, my paranoia convinced me they were somehow incompatible, but EPS just means you get an extra cable so it conforms to the EPS standard... Still thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. :)
Also - first build ended at 1.20am this morning, POSTed and BIOSed without a hitch. xD
Just preparing windows and drivers on some USB sticks now!
