    Pc running slow

    Hi everyone

Lately my pc is getting slower and slower
If I click to open a file or folder nothing happens for a few seconds then you hear the CPU fan spin up and then a few seconds later the file or folder will open.

Is this a processor problem? It's been working fine until about 2 week ago and it's getting steadily slower.

Check the Windows Event Log under the System section for any Warnings or Errors.

if its the post (from splash's link) saying

Rename this file: %windir%\panther\setup.etl to setup.old and reboot
then that just means 'the folder where you installed windows'\panther\setup.etl

    so it should be c:\windows\panther\

its not a hidden folder or file so should be visible.

    Re: Pc running slow

If I was you I'd check my running tasks since for all you know you might be doing something such as mining bitcoins without your knowledge. Look for any tasks you don't recognise and type them into google exactly as they are, if it does a auto spell check and than says windows process than it's a virus hiding under the name of a misspelled windows process and should be stopped and deleted at once. Alternatively you could just get a programme such as CC cleaner and stop everything besides windows tasks to start at start up.

If this does not do anything than I'd like you to answer these questions:

Did this happen suddenly or did it start slowing down over time?
What was the last thing you did before you noticed this happen?
and finally, how much slower is your pc now? a minute? 10 seconds?

    Re: Pc running slow

im in the task manager now

under applications I only have Skype and internet explorer running

under processes there are a few things in there. I know what a few of them are but they all say o% cpu usage

under services there is a crap load of things loads with running and loads with stooped under the status

wich ones should I be looking into?

and to answer your other questions

it slowed down over time and got worse
cant say I done anything new before I noticed this
it used to be all most instant when opening files and now it takes about 20-30 seconds.

well it has been over the last few days but for some reason its running great at this moment in time

I done a full virus scan last night but it did not find anything
