File on my desktop that won't go away!

    Hi guys,

Got a bit of a problem, and i've tried everything I can think of!

Basically there is a file on my desktop called "hurl.exe", I think it came from the amazon website when I was trying to listen to a sample of an album.

Now, the problem is, that I can't delete the bloody thing! I've tried starting in safe mode, deleting through Windows REcovery Console, and all of them say "The file is currently in use blah blah blah". I'm using Win XP Pro, SP 2

Can someone please help me, I don't know what is using this file or what it's using it for!

I have no idea what's causing it but you could try a win 98 boot floppy and try deleting it from dos prompt although I dont know if that would be much different from recovery console.

You can delete it fine in safe mode (yes, its from Real player :\)
Im not sure where Linux and NTFS writing is at the moment (Jo ?) as i know it was only stable for reading from the partitions, but ive not looked at it for a while,. Try safe mode first.

I tried it from safe mode and I got the same "File currently in use" warning error that I get from Windows. Will give it another go and see what happens, just incase its me being a numpty.

Try closing explorer from the task mananger, then go File> new task and run "cmd"
then change the target to your desktop and type: del "hurl.exe"

Always worked for me in the past
