Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
So I got my new graphics card, got the pus to support it. Spend 2 exhausting hours ripping the cabling out of my silencio 352 case and then installing everything.
I cross the last hurdles when DISASTER STRIKES!!!
The bracket holding the shape of my PCI express ports is clashing with my gpu's hdmi port!
Is there anything that I can do to remedy this? Will my motherboard sit a few mm lower down if I adjust it's fittings? Are there any hdmi cables with incredibly thin housings or very long connectors? Do I have to take cable snips or a saw to my case to remove the offending length of metal?
(Incidentally, a similar bracket inside the case thwarts any attempt at tidy cable management)
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
Does the HDMI cable fit in at all? I've had that happen where it doesn't seem to insert full but still works fine.
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
I can fit the cable in to a point where it displays, but only if I'm holding it.
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
Might be a situation for a Dremel (™ other rotary tools are available) to grind off just enough of the port surround to enable access.
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
What about using a DVI or Display Port instead?
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
No recent, and certainly branded case should be doing this. Double check all the inserts are screwed down into the system tray and that the card really is fully down. Check the gap between the motherboard and the case - there should be a hole that the end of the card fits into. Sometimes, if this misses, the card will be too 'high'.
Re: Gamer/beginner builder's worst nightmare.
I had it happen with my old Antec 900, so I just bent the bracket out of the way, much to the dismay of many Hexites when I posted my elegant solution. :P
Perhaps not the best solution though, especially not if you plan to use the adjacent slot and/or want to sell on the case, but it wasn't something that really bothered me.
Along the lines of what KeyboardDemon said, perhaps you could use a DVI port combined with a HDMI converter as another option?
Plus as Agent said, see if there's any play in the fittings; loosen the screws and see what can be 'jiggled a bit'. I've noticed some parts e.g. PCI brackets have a tendency to wander when fittings are being tightened so it might just be a case of holding them in place.

I should probably be ashamed that this is essentially the option I took :p
So this issue is now sorted, but another has raised it's ugly head: http://forums.hexus.net/help-quick-r...ml#post3376389
My computer now refuses to turn on.
