Windows 8.1 System Thread Exception Not Handled (Atikmdag.sys)

Fresh install of windows 8.1 tried to install the ati gfx drivers for my R9 295X2 and keep getting a BSOD at the end of the driver installation with:

System Thread Exception Not Handled (Atikmdag.sys)

Then on reboot it hits windows and immediately BSODs again. And this is all it will do until I go into Safe mode and uninstall the gfx driver.

Tried everything I can think of over the last 6 hours so am desperate now.

    Everything works fine if I swap out the R9 295X2 for a R9 280X.

    Any ideas greatly rec'd.

Have you tried a few driver versions, including the latest betas and-or a couple of Windows Hardware Quality Labs certified (WHQL) drivers?

I think it's ok to post a link to a good place to find drivers, a site forum too.

    Good luck!

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)

Try the new 14.9.1 beta (stabilised my GFs laptop with Sim3) or ask AMD Matt.

Use DDU to clean after the drivers.

Re: Windows 8.1 System Thread Exception Not Handled (Atikmdag.sys)

Purely came to down to incompatibility between motherboard and gfx card and was unable to resolve.

Sent the board back and changed my plans.

    Thanks for the suggestions though.

Re: Windows 8.1 System Thread Exception Not Handled (Atikmdag.sys)

Really it was down to the board? I had the same issue the other week and it was because the WDM updated drivers were still present. Cleaned the drivers out and forced the 14.4 catalyst and it was fine afterward and has updated fine since
