SSD Format recovery - which one ?
I have a PC of a friend here with a Corsair 240GB SSD, it appears to be knackered. It wasnt being recognised by the PC so I formatted it. Now I want to UnFormat it and recover the files. I ran Easeus but it took over 32 HOURS to show me it had discovered 3.2 Million files. and it said it wanted another 21 hours to go.
I cancelled the run.
Is there another format recovery software that wont take a year to sort ?
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Update - so after cancelling the recovery run, the Easeus software has presented me with a list of recoverable FILES, of which I can select JPGs for example, but it doesnt appear to want to recover the SSD original state - ie, the system drive with Win 8.1 installed on it :(
Dunno what to do now. If I get back all the photos (the most valuable bits) do I just reinstall Win 8.1 and leave it at that, or is there a software that can restore the drive to its original functioning state ?
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
If the drive was having issues and then you formatted it aswell, the chances of recovering the Windows install on it are minimal.
Formating a SSD is much less forgiving than a traditional drive when trying to recover in this method, due to the way the data is laid out on the NAND.
If it wasn't being recognised by the PC - was it a Sandforce drive by any chance? If so, the dropping from the BIOS often goes hand in hand with data loss anyway, so the chances are you would have gotten it into a fully bootable state aren't high.
They'll need to restore from backups.

awwww bottom :(
thats all Dianne's photos of the kids lost then !
Thanks anyway.

Ouch.
You could try the @Active Demo - it's one of the best I've seen for finding files:http://www.file-recovery.com/
I suspect a format and any new data being written to it will have caused serious recovery issues though.

You should always backup your important files :D it helps against issues just like this.
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
**I** do, my step daughter doesnt :(
She will now though
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Recovery may not be impossible for a least some of the files, just be careful the system you connect it to doesn't e.g. issue any TRIM commands. And I wouldn't put money on it.
Because of things like TRIM, wear-levelling, etc, recovery of deleted files is a whole different ball game to HDDs where deleted files remain pretty much as they are until they happen to get overwritten.
I wish you luck though.
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Finally found a half decent software which enabled me to recover just about all of the precious photos !
EaseUS !
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Great stuff!
Just a random story of file recovery, I was recovering accidentally deleted photos for someone a while ago, and ironically the main thing which damaged/overwrote files was a Kaspersky update!
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Final score : 750 photos, at 235MB.
Not all of them by any means, but the important ones are recovered :)
AND that 240GT has reformatted and reinstalled Win 8.1 dead easy, so we are at a loss to explain the loss.
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Perhaps a power loss to the SSD at a bad time, or a firmware bug?
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
Sadly your experience isn't uncommon due to the Sandforce controller. Glad it's working again - but don't trust it. Keep backups!!
Re: SSD Format recovery - which one ?
As others have said : sandforce controller.
Make sure you always keep the firmware up-to-date on it.
