Keyboard and Mouse not recognised at initial boot up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.I've spent ages searching for a solution on the internet with no joy.
When I start my PC its shows 0 ( zero ) keyboard and mouse. They do not power up and I can't access the mobo bios.
Once windows home page is displayed the keyboard and mouse come live and work fine.
I've tried every single USB2 and USB3 socket on the computer with no joy.
Device manager shows all drivers up to date. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers with no joy.
The only anomaly is that device manager recognises the mouse as a Logitech G400s but only shows the Logitech keyboard as an HID device.

MOBO - Asus P8Z68-V PRO GEN3
Keyboard - Logitech G11
Mouse - Logitech G400s
Windows 7 64 Pro

You probably need enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS, but since your keyboard is USB, it's a 'chicken & egg' problem. Do you have, or are you able to borrow a PS/2 keyboard? Once you get into the BIOS & change the USB setting, your USB keyboard should be fine thereafter.

Thanks for the advice..I feel a bit dumb..I should have thought of this !! I will borrow a keyboard and give it a try. I'll post the outcome.Thanks again

It's more often a problem with older motherboards; these days most manufacturers enable USB keyboards by default. At least it's an easy problem to sort out :)

You might want keep a PS/2 keyboard handy though, as if you update the BIOS in the future, it'll probably revert back to having USB keyboards disabled, so you'll have to change it once again. Or just not update your BIOS (or reset defaults!).

Just a thought - most USB keyboards come with a PS/2 plug adapter - did yours?

MrJim thanks again for your advice.I've done as you suggested and borrowed a keyboard . The BIOS shows USB devices as enabled.Looks like I'll have to live with the issue and just borrow a keyboard if I need to access the BIOS...which shouldn't be very often as the local computer shop set it all up.
I probably did have a PS/2 adaptor but 2 house moves later I can't find it !!

A motherboard I had a few years ago had more than one option that needed to be turned on for it to resolve a very similar problem, I cant remember the exact wording but was essentially the following options:
1. USB devices
2. USB devices at POST
3. USB Keyboard (instead of PS/2)

You might have other applicable options in the BIOS that also need to be modified.

Newer motherboards also have the FASTBOOT options, one of which is to not initialise USB during POST.
