    Laptop Random shutdown twice now?

As the title says, i have recently put in some memory but i cannot remember if it did it the first time before or after the memory was put into the laptop (it is the correct part number but a different brand, work that one out!)

Anyhow i will be doing my thing on the laptop then suddenly all power is completely lost, without warning!

The laptop will the boot as if i just turned it on.

Please note it is random, i am not doing anything intense when it happens for arguments sake i was just sat on firefox reading an artical about space o.0

The very first time was abit different as it was encoding a video.

However the laptop has a new motherboard which has been working fine for a good few months now, no overheating problems at all. i checked all of this with cpu-z along with a few others.

So....this is why i'm looking into the memory, has anyone else had this sort of problem?

P.s ive also done a scan so no virus's either, cheers!

Re: Laptop Random shutdown twice now?

Bad or misbehaving memory should result usually with BSoD. Usually. Had also random "restarts".

May I ask, if it is a hard shut down or it is a restart of the machine?

Try to run Memtest+ to see if the memory module(s) are fine.
Also check the HDD for SMART warnings.
Could be also driver problems (did you recently updated any of the device drivers)?

Well it is doing memtest right now and has had two passes so far, it's a hard shut down, all power is lost from the laptop and you hear the harddisk click and spin down as it happens, then after all power is lost it will start as if you press the power button as if you have just switched it on.

I have had alot of problems with drivers as I did install wrong ones but got rid and solved them issues, it is running windows 8.1

Edit! so something i should note is this,

The orginal battery is the one im using, its a erm....ye the only specs i can get from it are these...

    11.1v 62wh 5225mAh

    6 cell

now the one for the new board thats in place....well i ent a clue if im honest! all i can tell you about it is...

    6-cell lithium-Ion (Li-Ion), 2.55Ah, 55W

Which is what is stated on the site....stuck!
