So this might seem obvious but i wanted to see if someone could confirm for me if a fan rated at 5v 0.50A is going to be better than a fan rated at 5v 0.40A
Or more so what is the major difference? for arguments sake i could spend more and get a fan that is 5v 2.0A i just don't understand the "0.50A/0.40A/2.0A" part o.O
Anyone have any idea?
Hmmm I'm not sure x.xA comes into it so much more than the fans themselves. Different manufactures fans have completely different properties (and price) so you just have to find the best match for you.
What fans are you looking at?
Better at using more power? Yes. Better at cooling? No way to tell. People typically don't think power hungry netburst processors were better than the AMD chips at the time ;)Quote:

Well ha these are actually for a laptop, long story short i changed the guts of my laptop to transform it into a i7 and obviously want to make sure i can get a fan that will keep it cool and saw this number and assumed it to play a role in either fan speed or rpm or....something.
Ah in that case you are looking at a more specialized fan and if you are comparing 3x fans from the same manufacturer you will prob find the higher ampage will have a faster (and noiser) fan but really there is no way to tell how they will be unless you can find info on people who already own them.Quote:

this sounds daft, but have you googled the model numbers? Even if they're industrial or OEM only fans I'd be surprised if you can't get a datasheet.
Doesn't sound stupid at all, it's exactly what i did before i posted, each one just refers me back to a laptop fact sheet with no specific details for the fan :(Quote:

more than likely you will be best off going for the higher amperage fan for enhanced cooling for a minimal additional noise for the whole system. And that won't be too much for the system power brick.
Also, some may feel (and it's a strong argument physics wise) that you'll get a little more life from a system with stronger cooling.
more amperage draw at what speed and will the fan actually be at that speed ? ALso how loud are these fans. Keep googling.
Even at the same amp rating you can get a big difference in fan performance based on fan shape/material etc.
Best thing to look for as a rough rule of thumb is the airflow that it can push through.
Or try one for a week, check peek temps.
Then try the other for a week.
Might be the only way to compare them if there are no CFM numbers for them.
Suppose i should update, turns out the amp rating had no effect on these, the lower fan rated fan (after alot of research) was better for my laptop and now keeps temps down well, running an i7 i was able to peak at 79c on most cores and one core reaching 84c whilst running a range of different programs (furmark included)
Plus my gpu sat at 47c reaching a peak of 86c on heavy load.
