Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
No idea why this is occurring. I've not made any changes to my machine and the other user account doesn't have admin rights. Every time I hit left alt the computer goes to sleep - really annoying. Any suggestions as to what might be causing it or how I turn it off?
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
Does your keyboard have a dedicated "sleep" button? Have you ever spilled any liquid on the keyboard or have any reason to suspect corrosion etc?
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
No dedicated sleep button no. I've checked if there's any macros or reassignments on the keyboard driver/software etc and there's nothing. Liquid is very unlikely but possible, it's a shared computer after all - there's no obvious sign of it though. Need to dig out a spare keyboard I guess and see if that does it too.
It feels like a software thing to be honest - the computer's fairly new so has a fresh Win7 install and it's never done it apart from the last couple of days. Very odd :S
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
Does the same happen with the on screen keyboard?

Well came to try the computer today in order to test your suggestions and it's back to normal.
Very odd...
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
Odd indeed, well on the bright side at least its working again :)
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
And... it back again. ARGH!
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
On screen keyboard doesn't activate it, only the hardware.

Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
That would have me stumped. Is there another keyboard you could use for a while that doesn't exhibit this behavior? If so you would be best off contacting the original keyboard manufacturers.
For troubleshooting purposes, if you have the time and inclination, try windows 10 preview in a clean install on another storage medium, check if the same happens and if not that would be a windows setting somewhere. I would stress - somewhere!
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
It's a Zalman K400G. Googling suggests that this isn't all that uncommon, but no-one's ever found a solution apart from changing the keyboard for something else. I'll borrow one from work and see if that solves the issue. :)
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
Back around Win95 I seem to recall there was an official keyboard shortcut for Sleep, which was something like holding down ALT + ALT Gr.
Might have something to do with it, or perhaps it's something in the KB's firmware?
Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
If the language has been changed (possibly by accident) for a different one then can cause odd key behaviour at times. This article might help:

Re: Pressing left alt puts PC to sleep
A similar thing happened to me after I spilled some water on the keys. My left alt turned into Volume Down and my altGr turned into Stop Playback.
I have another K400G and when I plug that one in it works normally so I'm pretty sure the hardware got messed up somehow.
Anyways, what I did was just remap those keys back to alt and altGr using the software from the Zalman site. (Can't link it since I don't have 5 posts lol)
