Ridiculously high ping times in Battlefield 4

Up until two days ago, I was happily able to play Battlefield 4 on-line, with my ping times usually with 10-35ms range. Unfortunately, since that time, my ping times have drastically deteriorated - I'm now getting in-game ping times in the region of 500-800ms. Needless to say this makes playing the game pretty much impossible, & usually results in my being kicked from the server. The weird thing is, that the ping times reported in the server browser seem to be pretty normal.

I've contacted my ISP (Plusnet), who checked the connection there end, & couldn't detect a fault. They suggested connecting the fibre modem directly to my PC to see whether my router is the problem, but the problem remained the same after doing so.

Can anyone suggest anything else to try? I could try reinstalling the game, but at a 50Gb download, I don't really want to unless it's a last resort. I've not changed any of my set-up my end (hardware or software), so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's causing the problem?

put that into winmtr http://downloads.rackage.com/Tools/N...inMTR-v092.zip

let it run in game when you have issues to trace the route and save a log.

The ping in the server browser was 21ms, but in-game it ranged from 462-999ms

I don't have another multi-player on-line game that I can try at the moment, unfortunately...

I forgot I had Borderlands the Pre Sequal - it's only 4 online players of course, but it seemed to play normally. So it could be a BF4 only problem, I guess?

It looks to me like "router.asus.com" is your router...and that's showing an average ping of over 400ms.

Now you say you had the same when connecting the fibre modem directly to the PC? I presume this was the BT Openreach modem?

If so, then the problem has to be your PC or LAN cable.

Your ping to your router should pretty much be zero all the time.
If it was the router, then connecting to the modem directly would alleviate the issue.
The only thing(s) in common are the PC and (possible) the cable

Yep, I had the same experience when I connected the BT Openreach modem directly to the PC. I've already tried using a different ethernet cable. I'm pretty sure my PC is free of any virusses or malware - I'm pretty careful & scan frequently.

Sadly, no, I don't have a LAN card

Yes that's odd but you cannot get away from an average ping time of 400ms between the PC and the router...it even shows as worst ping 4671 (hideous!) and 4 completely dropped. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong and the tracert says to me that it's the PC, cable or router (and we have discounted the cable and router!).

Worst should be about 5ms, there should be zero drops and average around 1ms.

Perhaps Borderlands uses so little traffic and/or dampens the output so much that you don't notice it?

Borderlands isn't PvP and probably allows a lot of interpolation to cover up latency. Payday 2 seems to do something similar; rather than noticeably teleporting about, players with connection problems just seem to be in a different place than they actually are.

I'm just installing 'Warface' (Crytek free to play FPS), so I'll see how that goes. All very weird though...
