Unable to ping router using wi-fi

Hello, I have been suffering from a recurring issue regarding using the wifi on my computer. The main problem being the computer is unable to ping back to the router. Basically for around 5-10 minutes, the internet becomes inaccessible due to the computer unable to reach the router. While this is all going on, the wifi icon for windows is showing that it is connected with internet available.

I have tried two different routers and they both exhibit the same problem which leads me into thinking that it may have something to do with my modem.

Just incase my explanation above was unclear, I have attached a document showing a pingtest from my pc to the router through cmd. pingtest doc

I should also mention that my other pc has the same problem when connected using a usb wireless adapter.

When this happens, are you able to access the Internet on other computers or devices, or with a wired connection?

I haven't tried a wired connection due to the randomness of the issue, it can start at anytime of day (normally late afternoon). I have tried 2 PC's using wireless usb adapters and 2 laptops and both share the issue.

Sorry, I've just realised you already said that in your first post.

Considering the router itself fails to respond to pings rather than just the Internet connection, it sounds like an issue with the router itself. Do you have separate modem/router/access point or a combined unit? I've seen a couple of routers go bad over time, maybe due to cheap capacitors failing.

Is the router set to reject ICMP packets? Some routers do not enable ICMP over wifi networks for security reasons, it helps prevent DOS attacks and system probes.

I'm starting to think that the modem might be the problem since I have tried two different routers. I highly doubt that the router has been set to reject the ICMP packets because this problem has only started occurring a few months ago and I have had the router for a year and a half. The router is an Asus RT-AC56u and asus has always been pretty good with their products to my knowledge.

It will not be the modem. If you cannot ping the router the problem is between the PC and the router, the modem is the other side of the router.

If you have tried 2 different routers, then that would point to the Wifi adapter/drivers in the PC.

The problem is not isolated to just one PC, my brothers pc and two different laptops have both been unable to ping to the router when the problem occurs/

You may have a Wifi card/driver that is causing the routers wifi to crash. I have noticed this happening recently with what I believe to be an issue with an Intel 7260 wifi adapter causing my wifi to fail intermittently, so it's something I am aware happens.
