BSOD 0x124 - windows crashes ~10 seconds after log on

My pc is approximately one year old and has been running Windows 7 for that time with no problems (other than a dead data hard drive a month ago). Yesterday I turned it on and got a bsod about 5 Seconds after logging into windows. This now happens every time I try to log into windows.

The error code is 0x124 indicating hardware failure. The dump file is not very informative, it lists the cause as 'genuine intel'. Oddly I can get the machine to run fine in the bios, or any of the windows safe modes. It also loads os x (dual boot machine) with no problems.

I'm puzzled and not sure what to do. Any guidance would be welcome. The cpu is not overclocked and runs at stock voltages and frequencies. Temperatures report as normal in the bios.

Genuine Intel indicates that it's the CPU self-reporting an error. It's possible that the error is down to some software/driver interference or that it's a motherboard or, probably less likely, a PSU problem, rather than a CPU fault.

Carefully read and follow the instructions here and attach the required zipped folders to a reply.

You'll need Safe Mode with networking.

Thanks for your reply. I have posted the necessary information on the other forum. I actually managed to get the PC to boot with all drivers running in debug mode. From there I ran the intel CPU testing tool and it reports a pass. Very odd. Perhaps it is a motherboard fault.
