    Help with internet ping!

Ok. I have always been with blueyonder and 1st got it when it was 512k. Now its been upgraded twice to 1 meg and my ping is always higher then what it used to be. Still playing on the same servers. My ping used to never go over 40 but now its hardly ever under and sometimes it goes as high as 240.

Anyone help? Should i phone up blueyonder?

    Cheers

depends on where you are trying to ping to.

its also looking at a trace route to see where the delay is occuring.

eg a trace route to www.bbc.co.uk

    Code:
    Tracing route to www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.224.36]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms SpeedTouch.lan [192.168.1.1]
2 31 ms 14 ms 15 ms my external IP
      3 24 ms 27 ms 23 ms eth3-8.cr1.uk5.systems.pipex.net [62.241.161.29]

      4 20 ms 22 ms 22 ms ge-0-0-1-0.cr1.he1.systems.pipex.net [62.241.161
    .157]
      5 19 ms 18 ms 24 ms xpe-gw0.prt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk [217.79.160.123]
      6 20 ms 18 ms 16 ms 212.58.238.153
      7 21 ms 20 ms 20 ms www6.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.36]

    Trace complete.
I get between 14-20ms pings to the bbc's web server from my 512k Pipex line.

what happened if you do the same ?

go to a command prompt and type tracert www.bbc.co.uk

also if you let me know which server you are connecting to for gaming I'll try a trace to it and see if its the server or somethign at your end.
