    Run>Services.msc>Restarting Windows Audio
    Chkdsk :c /f

I have no other problems with windows everything works fine.

    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit Service Pack 1 6.1.7601

Sound silly, but have you tried setting the default audio output to the correct output in windows?

Yea of course lol but the strange thing is it says "2- AMD High Definition Audio Device" so i'm assuming that's the reason as Realtek is obviously first priority. check the pic below and you'll see what i mean...

It is rather strange. Are there green bars when you're playing music or something?

That's really strange. Maybe it's the card? Is there any warranty left on it?

    Re: Failed to play tone.

Nope doubt it and i don't think it's a defective card because device manager doesn't report any problems. I think it's more of a registry problem if anything

    Re: Failed to play tone.

Try this; right click 40 FHD LCD TV, select properties, go to the advanced tab.

Then change the default format down to 2 channel 16 bit 44100Hz

    Re: Failed to play tone.

That's what i thought it could be but the box is greyed out for some reason...

Is there a way to manually change it in the registry?

Edit: Ok so i'm thinking it definitely has something to do with the Audio format selected because when i have the Intel HDMI plugged in it looks like this:

But with the AMD HDMI it looks like this:

    Suggestions?

    Re: Failed to play tone.

Ok thanks for the help guys much obliged (Y)

so i managed to fix it heres what i did.

right click the audio tray icon -> playback devices
right click hdmi audio -> properties
under the general tab click properties -> driver -> uninstall
check the box to uninstall software/delete driver software and click okay

Go into the device manager and click the scan for hardware changes button."

I did this 3-4 times to delete all the past AMD HDMI Audio drivers and it reverted back to the generic Microsoft one and voila audio works fine now

  12. Received thanks from:

Unsure how easy to check as a laptop but if the audio connector on motherboard is not connected to the graphics card then HDMI from it wont carry the sound.
