Bugger of a crash!
Right you HANDY HELPERS!!!!.... i have a problem here, my comp is listed in my signiture below see if you can help me out!
I built this rig few weeks ago and when it was first up ran like a dream
1 thing i noticed is that it seems to use a lot of cpu power windows media player full screen equaliser uses as much as 50% which could just be how the 3500 works. nothing is overclcoked.
But my system keeps crashing it seems to be very stable until i start to run a game, (Joint operations) at any random moment it will just freeze, i reinstalled game to different drive so i know its not the game,
lights on my ram show that computer is on but not running, display freezes on wherever i was last at and a sustained high pitched buzzing comes through the speakers. All temparatures are super cool, and once restarted theres no change in system performance.
im pretty sure its not hardware and i have no viruses, as i say cant tell a fault when system is on.
So after all that im left with my PSU, my comp does use a lot of power and im sure the 6800 uses a lot too, but i have a 500w which i thought would be enough.
the crashing is doing my head in and even after leaving comp off all night seems to crash at random between 30 seconds and couple of hours on game.
Soooooo do you think it could be PSU? the air coming out of the back of PSU is quite warm, warmer than it should be. thinking of going for a 650w qtec which my colleques have had no problems with on running lots of devices.
But if its not the PSU i am royally screwed if i know! :shocked2:
what else could it be guys?

If you're worried about voltages, get a program like motherboard monitor which will tell you how your rails are doing.
I'd say it sounds more like a device driver problem though
-
dont go q-tec for a start,
tagan 480watt, or thermaltake purepower 550watt are reliable favourites, IF it is the PSU, i wouldnt want to give bad advice when i dont really know what it could be but thats my 2p's worth anyway
-
how can the tagan 480 be more powerfull than a 650w? i read reviews in custom pc magazine and it got top notch for runnin at full load but if my 500w is no gd . . . .im not clever on PSU's my devices seem ok everything runs fine and i cant see what device driver would be bad enough to stall the comp after all it worked fine when i got it?????
-
Generic PSU's sometimes dont really hit the rated power output, I wouldnt go for a Q-tec either heard some real horror stories about them.
Sounds like a driver problem to me as well, one thing you should do is check your event manager, can be found in control panel > admin tools it might give you a hint at what driver is causing the problem

just having a nosey at event manager cant say iv used it much before but theres a few errors and a few warnings,
getting warnings 54, The COM+ Event System attempted to fire the EventObjectChange::ChangedSubscription event but received a bad return code. HRESULT was 80040201.
and 52,
The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}. CoGetObject returned HRESULT 8007041F.
and error
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( nview_info ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: NVIEW : iexplore: WAIT_TIMEOUT, while waiting for a read to clear - resetting read event
cant say i have much of a clue as to what these are but they sound suspicious i know that error is to do with graphics but i have the latest forceware from nvidia
that was in aplications the errors in system are as follows
DCOM got error "The service database is locked. " attempting to start the service SENS with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}
The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error:
The attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referenced.
there are more than 1 appearance of each of these warning and errors, im lost with it now

put motherboard monitor on what am i looking for if theres not enough power from psu?
on high low ive got
averages
core 0 1.45 v
core 1 3.01 v
+3.3 3.30 v
+5.00 5.00 v
+12.00 16.32 v
-12.00 0.00 v
-5 0.00 v
if that means anything to anyone
no conflicts in device manager
HELP!!! AHHHHHH
-
im still not sure what it is, i turned mcafee antivirus off as it uses lots of resources and Joint operations ran super laggy unplayable, id hate to have to format but maybe it would sort this mess out, could still be PSU
-
Generic PSUs and Q-Tecs are generally a bad thing. Now, I always try to use a decent PSU if I can - in my opinion, it is better to have a decent brand PSU (such as Tagan, Antec, Enermax, Thermaltake) rather than a generic or poor brand PSU, regardless of wattage.
Have you tried running Memtest?
-
ok guys i fitted an i cute 400w i had lying about and it runs ok! which im very chuffed about soooo im gunna get a decent power supply, i hear gd things of tagan but the antec truepower 480w got high reviews i want something that is quiet and will stay cool under high load. i want the ULTIMATE BEASHT in power supplys what u reckon????
